Some representatives of the Catholic Church have disavowed the propriety of government medicine, on the grounds that “health care is a political, not a natural, right, because it comes from our human efforts, creativity, and compassion.” Thus government medicine violates what they call the “subsidiarity” principle, and will starve private insurance and charity out of existence. Others have asserted that there is a “right” to health care, provided from resources redistributed by the government.
